Set to his most beloved songs, it’s the epic musical story of Elton John, his breakthrough years in the 1970s and his fantastical transformation from shy piano prodigy to international superstar.

“Rocketman is nothing less than sheer joy, which uses every filmic trick in cinema’s arsenal to serve up a smorgasbord of feel-good delights.”

“Rocketman transcends its well-worn form with beautifully executed flights of fantasy that encapsulate the carefree joy of song.”

“A musical simply bursting with the joy of existing.”

“Whatever Rocketman’ s shortcomings, or its subject’s, the film is an exhilarating ride and a reminder of why so much of Elton John’s music is appealing and enduring.”

Recycling – What you can do in West Sussex

Do you know what can and can’t be recycled in West Sussex? Take a look at our A-Z of recycling guide

We know most of you are already doing a good job at recycling, but there’s always more to be done. Some recyclable items that are commonly missed around the home include:

  • Plastic pots, tubs and trays (any colour, including black plastic)
  • Card (corrugated and non-corrugated)
  • Newspapers, magazines and other recyclable paper
  • Shampoo and shower gel bottles
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Cans and aerosols.

It’s also really important you make sure your recycling is:

  • CLEAN – free from food and drink leftovers – a quick rinse will do.
  • DRY – keep your recycling bin lid shut – soggy paper and cardboard can’t be recycled and can clog up machinery when sorted.
  • LOOSE – not tied up in plastic bags.

Download and keep a handy fridge flyer.

Its Back – Film Night Thursday 14th October

SHOWING SOMETIMES ALWAYS NEVER STARRING BILL NIGHY

THURSDAY 14th OCTOBER – HARTING COMMUNITY HALL, SOUTH HARTING

FILM STARTS AT 7.30pm. DOORS OPEN AT 7.00pm

Film poster Sometimes Always NeverSOMETIMES ALWAYS NEVER is a delightful off-beat comedy drama with lots of dry British humour, starring Bill Nighy in the lead role together with Jenny Agutter, Sam Riley and Alice Lowe. It should particularly appeal to Scrabble fans as the family in the film is blessed with exceptional vocabulary while playing Scrabble. However, they cannot put these words to use on an everyday basis and hence, they struggle to communicate with each other.  “It really gets Scrabble”.

Alan is a stylish tailor with moves as sharp as his suits. But he’s spent years searching tirelessly for his missing son, Michael, who stormed out over a game of Scrabble. With a body to identify and his family torn apart, Alan must repair the relationship with his youngest son and identify an online player who he thinks could be Michael, so he can finally move on and reunite his family.

Hot Weather – Stay Safe

cartoon image of sun with sunglasses and fan

The Met Office has updated the Level 3 – Heatwave Action Alert to end at 09:00 on Friday.

There is a 90 % probability of Heat-Health Alert criteria being met between 0600 on Tuesday and 0900 on Friday in parts of England

View the full warning at the Met Office Heat Health Watch site.

Please also note that the Met Office have issued a Yellow Thunderstorm Warning (Low Likelihood of Medium Impacts) for today Tuesday 20th 13:00 to 23:59 which covers the North of Sussex. Please find the full warning at the Met Office website.

Hot weather can affect your health. The people most likely to be affected are the elderly, the very young, and people with pre-existing medical conditions.

Please follow this advice to keep cool and comfortable and reduce health risks:

  • Shut windows and pull down the shades when it is hotter outside. If it’s safe, open them for ventilation when it is cooler.
  • Avoid the heat: stay out of the sun and don’t go out between 11am and 3pm (the hottest part of the day).
  • Keep rooms cool by using shades or reflective material outside the windows. If this isn’t possible, use light-coloured curtains and keep them closed (metallic blinds and dark curtains can make the room hotter).
  • Have cool baths or showers, and splash yourself with cool water.
  • Drink cold drinks regularly, such as water and fruit juice. Avoid tea, coffee and alcohol.
  • Plan ahead to make sure you have enough supplies, such as food, water and any medications you need.
  • Identify the coolest room in the house so you know where to go to keep cool.
  • Wear loose, cool clothing and a hat if you go outdoors.

Also, please don’t forget about the animals in your care and view the top tips for keeping pets cool in hot weather by using the RSPCA link below.
