Andrew Shaxson, Chair

Andrew Shaxson

Chair

I have lived in this area all my life, my family having farmed land in Elsted and Harting parishes for 90 years.  I was District Councillor for Harting for 20 years, was elected to serve on Harting Parish Council in 2015, and have been a parish councillor for Elsted since 1987.  I am also a member of the South Downs National Park Authority. Among my interests are planning and local history.  It is likely that Parish Councils will have to carry out tasks currently done by others.  We must be prepared to meet that challenge.

I live in South Acre with my wife Ruth. During six years on the Parish Council I have chaired the Finance Committee and played a part on both the Planning and Parks & Open Spaces Committees.  As Chairman of the Horticultural Society, I take an interest in and try to play a part in village life. I have lived in the village since 2001 during which time I have participated in many aspects of village life including serving on the Festivities Committee.  I currently volunteer for two local charities and have witnessed at first-hand how our local services play a significant role in people’s everyday lives as well as the importance of friends, family and neighbours.  Harting has a great legacy built on family, local business and a sense of community. I am keen to serve the parish and to support the council in representing the interests of this unique environment and its residents.
