Piece of history restored in West Harting

The disused telephone box in West Harting has been renovated to its former glory.

Long since decommissioned by BT the iconic red box is now owned by The Parish Council.

Parish Councillor John Miller, who lives in West Harting, said, “The phone box was looking very neglected and in a sorry state. When asked, local residents said they regarded it as a part of the village heritage, a landmark for directing visitors, and wanted it to be refurbished. A group of residents has now agreed to look after the phone box and the surrounding area”.

The refurbishment work was carried out by local tradesman Colin Read and his son Luke, who live in South Harting.

Colin said “We do a lot of building, carpentry and painting work for local people in and around Harting. We were delighted to be chosen for this project and to be able to contribute to the improvement of the local community.”
